Meta is pushing further into enterprise artificial intelligence with the launch of Meta Enterprise Platform, a new business-focused operation designed to bring its AI models, agents, APIs and infrastructure directly to companies.

The move expands Meta beyond the familiar world of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp advertising. Instead of only helping companies reach customers, Meta now wants businesses to use its technology inside their own operations.

The company is positioning the platform as a major new growth area as artificial intelligence becomes embedded in customer service, software development, sales, commerce and workplace automation.

Meta Enterprise Platform Brings Its AI Tools Under One Roof

Meta Enterprise Platform brings several of the company’s existing AI technologies into a broader enterprise offering, including Muse, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code.

The strategy is relatively straightforward. Meta has spent heavily building AI models and infrastructure for its consumer platforms, advertising systems and internal products. It now wants to package more of that technology for companies that need AI tools of their own.

That could mean customer-facing AI agents, developer tools, automated workflows or systems that connect with existing business software.

Meta Business Agent already offers an early glimpse of that approach. The technology allows companies to deploy AI agents that can answer customer questions, recommend products, schedule appointments, qualify leads and transfer conversations to human employees when necessary.

Meta said earlier in 2026 that more than one million businesses were using Business Agent across WhatsApp and Messenger.

Meta Wants a Larger Role Inside Business Operations

For years, Meta’s relationship with businesses largely revolved around advertising.

Companies paid to reach consumers on Facebook and Instagram, ran shops across Meta platforms and communicated with customers through Messenger and WhatsApp. Meta Enterprise Platform pushes that relationship into a different part of the business.

Instead of simply buying access to Meta’s audience, companies could increasingly use Meta technology to operate parts of their own customer service, commerce or internal workflows.

That places Meta closer to the enterprise AI market occupied by companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Salesforce and other software providers that are building AI agents and automation tools for businesses.

Meta already has an advantage that many enterprise AI companies do not: millions of businesses are already operating somewhere inside its ecosystem.

The challenge will be convincing those businesses to go from using Meta as a marketing channel to using Meta as an enterprise technology provider.

CJ Desai Will Lead Meta’s Enterprise AI Expansion

Meta has appointed Chirantan “CJ” Desai as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer to lead the new business.

Desai reports directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and brings extensive enterprise software experience to the role. Before joining Meta, he served as president and CEO of MongoDB and previously held senior positions at Cloudflare and ServiceNow.

The appointment gives Meta an executive who understands a very different market from social media.

Enterprise technology deals often involve long sales cycles, complex integrations, security reviews and commitments that stretch over several years. That is a different environment from launching features inside Facebook or Instagram.

Desai will oversee Meta’s effort to turn its AI models, agents, APIs and infrastructure into products that companies can deploy at scale.

Meta Business Agent Shows Where the Strategy Is Heading

Meta has already been laying the groundwork for this enterprise expansion through its Business Agent products.

The company has been developing AI agents that businesses can deploy across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram to interact directly with customers.

These systems can move beyond simple automated replies. Depending on how they are configured, they can recommend products, answer questions, help complete purchases, manage bookings and connect customers with human employees.

Meta has also introduced a Meta Business Agent Platform aimed at larger organizations.

Companies can connect agents with outside platforms and business systems, including services such as Shopify and Zendesk. That gives the AI access to information needed to perform more useful tasks rather than simply generating conversational responses.

The larger Enterprise Platform extends this idea. Meta wants to become part of the infrastructure companies use to build and run AI-powered services.

Meta Is Looking for Revenue Beyond Advertising

There is also a financial reason behind Meta’s enterprise push.

Artificial intelligence has become one of the most expensive areas of technology development. Training models, operating data centers and buying advanced chips require enormous investment.

Meta has committed tens of billions of dollars to AI infrastructure as it competes with other technology companies building increasingly powerful models.

Advertising remains Meta’s dominant revenue source, but enterprise AI could create another way to generate returns from those investments.

If businesses begin paying for Meta’s AI agents, APIs, models and infrastructure, the technology supporting Facebook and Instagram could gradually become a commercial product in its own right.

That would give Meta another source of revenue beyond advertising, subscriptions and consumer services.

Enterprise Adoption Will Come With Trust Questions

Convincing businesses to adopt Meta’s technology may be harder than simply releasing new AI tools.

Enterprise customers will want detailed assurances about security, privacy, reliability, data ownership and control.

A customer support agent handling product questions may appear relatively simple. An AI system connected to internal company databases, customer records, commerce platforms or operational software creates a much more complicated set of risks.

Meta says privacy and security are being incorporated into its enterprise products from the beginning.

Still, companies evaluating the platform are likely to look closely at how their information is stored, how models interact with business data and what controls are available to administrators.

Meta’s history in enterprise software may also influence those conversations.

The company previously operated Workplace, its business communication and collaboration platform, before announcing plans to shut the service down.

Enterprise customers tend to expect software platforms to remain available for years. Meta will therefore need to show that Enterprise Platform is a long-term business rather than another temporary experiment.

Meta Is Building Beyond the Social Media Feed

Meta Enterprise Platform offers another sign that the company increasingly sees itself as more than a social media business.

Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and advertising will remain central to Meta’s operations. But beneath those products sits a rapidly expanding technology stack that includes AI models, recommendation systems, developer tools, agents and enormous computing infrastructure.

Meta now wants to commercialize more of that technology directly.

The shift is important because it changes the company’s relationship with businesses.

For years, companies came to Meta because their customers were already there.

Meta now wants them to stay for something else: the artificial intelligence technology running underneath the platforms themselves.

Whether businesses embrace that proposition will determine how large Meta Enterprise Platform eventually becomes.
