Reddit has pushed past another audience milestone, reaching 130.3 million daily active users during the second quarter of 2026.
That figure represents an 18% increase from the same period last year and a gain of roughly 3.5 million users compared with the first quarter. Reddit is still smaller than several mainstream social platforms, but its audience keeps moving in the right direction — and advertisers are paying attention.
Reddit’s Weekly Audience Crosses Half a Billion
Reddit’s daily numbers only tell part of the story.
The platform recorded 514.6 million weekly active users during the quarter, up 24% year over year. It was the first time Reddit’s weekly audience moved beyond the half-billion mark.
That creates an unusual gap between Reddit’s daily and weekly activity.
Most large social platforms have a much narrower difference between the number of people visiting each day and those returning at least once a week or month. Reddit’s weekly audience is almost four times the size of its daily user base.
People often arrive with a specific question, read a discussion, check product recommendations or browse a niche community, then leave. They may return several days later rather than opening Reddit every morning out of habit.
Reddit now has to convince more of those occasional visitors to stick around.
Search and AI Are Sending People to Reddit
A large amount of Reddit discovery happens outside the platform itself.
Google searches regularly surface Reddit discussions because users want responses written by actual people rather than polished brand pages. AI chatbots also draw heavily from Reddit conversations when answering questions about products, technical problems, travel, relationships and countless niche subjects.
That visibility has helped Reddit grow. It has also created a weakness.
CEO Steve Huffman described search referrals during the quarter as “choppy,” signalling that traffic arriving through third-party platforms can change quickly. Search engines may adjust their rankings. AI tools may answer questions directly without sending users to the original discussion.
Reddit benefits when its communities appear everywhere online. It cannot comfortably depend on those referrals forever.
Reddit Wants More Visitors to Become Regular Users
The company is working on its recommendation systems, search tools and overall user experience to turn passing visitors into people who return every day.
That is easier said than done.
Someone searching for advice about a laptop, holiday destination or strange household problem may land on one useful Reddit thread without feeling any need to create an account. Reddit must give that person a reason to explore another community, join a discussion or come back later.
Its enormous range of subreddits gives the platform a strong starting point. The harder task is making those communities easier to discover without stripping away the messy, user-led character that makes Reddit useful in the first place.
Reddit Revenue Climbs 61% to $805 Million
The audience growth translated into a sharp financial result.
Reddit generated $805 million in revenue during Q2 2026, up 61% from the previous year and 21% compared with the first quarter. Advertising remained the main engine, with ad revenue increasing 64% to approximately $762 million.
Net income reached $253 million, more than double the $89 million reported during the same quarter last year. The result shows how quickly Reddit has improved its ability to make money from an audience that was once considered difficult for brands to navigate.
The platform is still spending heavily to support that growth. Operating expenses rose 30% year over year, driven partly by a 62% increase in sales and marketing investment.
Reddit clearly does not plan to sit back and let Google do all the audience-building work.
Reddit Is Becoming Harder for Advertisers to Ignore
Reddit does not offer the polished creator feeds found on Instagram or TikTok. Its value sits somewhere else.
Users gather in communities built around specific interests, professions, hobbies, products and problems. Someone reading a long thread about running shoes, gaming equipment or business software may already be close to making a purchase.
For brands, that intent can matter more than raw reach.
Advertising on Reddit still requires a careful approach. Communities tend to reject campaigns that feel forced, overly promotional or disconnected from the discussion. Brands that understand the language and expectations of individual subreddits have a better chance of gaining attention without triggering an immediate backlash.
With 130.3 million daily users and more than 514 million weekly users, Reddit is no longer a side platform that marketers can casually dismiss. Its audience behaviour remains unusual. The business behind it, though, is growing very quickly.
